Distinguished Lecture on Data Science for Social Good
On March 10, 2022 a Lecture on ‘Data Science for Social Good’, by Prof Ponnurangam Kumarguru (PK), Professor of Computer Science at IIIT – Hyderabad, was organized. PK has co-authored research papers in the field of Privacy and Security in Online Social Media, Cyber Security, Computational Social Science, Social Computing and Data Science for Social Good. His PhD thesis work on anti-phishing research at CMU contributed in creating an award-winning startup. In the session he showed the interconnection of various computer science fields like Data Science & Cyber Security and new topics like happy maps, social engineering, and various ideas for prevention of deaths by using Computational Social Science. The session was attended by faculty, staff, and students, who were inspired by his great body of work. Vice Chancellor Dr Dheeraj Sanghi presented a memento to the speaker and thanked him for his words of wisdom. The session was followed by interaction of faculty of the university with Prof PK on research prospects in Data Science and overcoming challenges. The session was co-ordinated by Dr Sonal Jain and Garv Baheti, Priya Soni and Aditya Shrivastava, students of BTech Sem IV CSE.
