Institute of Design
Rattan Gangadhar joined the Institute of Design, JKLU in December 2025. Prior to this, he served as the Dean of DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore.
With extensive experience in design education, Prof. Gangadhar has held academic and leadership roles at RV University, Anant National University, and DSK International School of Design.
His industry experience spans leading organisations, including a key role in establishing the design studio at the General Motors Technical Centre – India. He has also worked as an Application Artist for 3ds Max at Autodesk India Ltd. and as a Technical Specialist for Industrial Design, Film, and Video at Tata Elxsi. Earlier in his career, he was part of the motorcycle division at Escorts Ltd., where he contributed to the design of the iconic Yamaha RX-Z.

His work is grounded in a practice-led approach, with sustained professional engagement as an automotive and product design consultant. His practice emphasises hands-on design development and industry collaboration, translating real-world briefs into viable concepts through sketching, modelling, visualisation, and iterative prototyping. He has worked on projects across mobility and product design domains, including engagements with AMW Trucks, Aston Martin (through DC Design Ltd.), and toy design projects for Aara Play, among others.
