Biography

Afreen is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Communication and Critical Thinking, JK Lakshmipat University. Afreen is a recipient of the ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship and MCRG- Rosa Luxemburg Grant for research on pastoralism. He has been awarded a Gold Medal for his Master’s in Public Administration and has qualified UGC-NET in Political Science.

Afreen is a founding member and lead organiser of the Peoples of Himalayas Academic Discourse Network and a member of the Ecologies of Labour network. His interests lie in utilising Political-Economy to analyse shifts in Labour Practices and Mobility amongst nomadic communities in the Western Himalayas. He aims to decolonise epistemes and pedagogies and empower academic scholars belonging to the Western Himalayas. His work on Covid, nomads and mobility has been published in edited volumes by Routledge and Lexington.  Afreen believes that a well cooked meal can be a potent challenge to bigotry, and a heartfelt poem can be a good tool for introspection.
