In collaboration with US-based Object Automation System Solutions, the Institute of Engineering and Technology conducted a five-day workshop titled "Digital Systems Design using Open Source EDA Tools" from July 27-31.
This workshop took the participants through the complete journey of open-source chip design. It covered the fundamentals of the POWER Instruction Set Architecture, building a mini processor core, exploring the Microwatt OpenPOWER core, extending it with a custom instruction and peripheral to form a working SoC, booting Linux on FPGA hardware, and finally carrying a design through the complete physical design flow using OpenROAD.
Each day combined conceptual sessions with hands-on practical exercises. Conducted by experts from The workshop successfully enhanced students' practical knowledge of modern digital system and semiconductor design through hands-on training with open-source EDA tools.
Conducted by experts from Object Automation System Solutions, the workshop strengthened industry-academia collaboration, promoted experiential learning, and equipped participants with industry-relevant skills for higher studies, research, internships, and careers in the VLSI and semiconductor domain.
