FDP on Rethinking Learning Outcomes & Assessments for Programming Courses in the GenAI Era

A two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Rethinking Learning Outcomes and Assessments for Programming Courses in the GenAI Era” on April 3–4. The FDP, coordinated by Dr. Surbhi Chhabra, witnessed participation from large number of faculty members and doctoral research scholars from CSE, Mathematics and ECE.

The program was led by Prof. Viraj Kumar, Visiting Professor at the Kotak-IISc AI-ML Centre, IISc Bangalore, an eminent scholar in computer science education and Generative AI. The FDP aimed to help faculty explore innovative approaches to teaching, learning outcomes and assessment strategies for programming education in the GenAI era.

Through highly interactive and hands-on sessions, Prof. Kumar shared valuable insights on the impact of Generative AI on programming education, covering themes such as learning outcomes and assessments in the GenAI age, probeable and refute problems, strategies for designing refute problems, and automated and manual grading approaches. Discussions also examined how AI tools influence problem-solving, assessment design and student learning.

A key highlight of the FDP was its practical orientation, enabling participants to critically engage with emerging pedagogical challenges and opportunities created by GenAI.
